YMCA & The Boston Celtics

Fit-To-Win Program

Updated Saturday January 20, 2018 by Wayne Martin.

Dear Community Members –

The Pineland YMCA is excited to announce that we will be partnering with the Boston Celtics for the 3rd year in a row to offer the Fit-To-Win program to youth in our community.

The Fit-To-Win program runs for 4 weeks, and each week youth are assigned a new workout to do, as well as healthy habits to practice. Workouts are taught at the Pineland Branch weekly, Mondays (4:45-5:30) by our Group Exercise instructor Tracy Libby and are sure to be fun, build stamina and boost physical activity during these cold winter months!

Program Begins – Tip-Off Meeting: January 22nd

·         1st week check in & week 2 workouts: January 29th

·         2nd week check in & week 3 workouts: February 5th

·         3rd week check in & week 4 workouts: February 12th

If the youth participating complete the healthy habits and workouts daily they gain points, which are tracked on their score cards at home throughout the week. At the end of each week we tally up the points at the Y’s Monday class and all players are given a prize from the Celtics if we meet our weekly goal. Who doesn’t like that!

Children are learning what their bodies need outside of the court (water, less screen time, healthy meals) and are getting in shape for basketball or any other sport they are passionate about through the Celtics designed workouts. This year children also get points for playing a sport! Have a regular practice or gym game? This counts!

At the end of the 4 weeks all participants will meet at the Portland Branch for an evening Finally Event with Celtics players where the total points are announced for each of our YMCA branches, and workouts are re-caped with the players, cheer team, and Lucky the mascot. Bus service is provided free to charge from the Pineland Branch.

Also at this evening event a handful of our players are chosen for the BIG MVP prize! Each year the Celtics surprise us with something new, so I’m not 100% sure what they have up their sleeve this year…but I can tell you what we have seen in years past for these special participants.

·         2016 – MVP was chosen to attend a Celtics game in Boston with 4 members of their family and be a ball-girl/boy at the game!

·         2017 – MVP’s were chosen to attend a full practice with the Celtics players at their practice facility in MA. Bus transportation was provided for players and family members to the event.

This program is completely free of charge! Registration is required and participants must attend the 4 meetings (noted on the attached flyer) so we can accurately track points throughout the program. The Y is dedicated to strengthening our community and we see this program as a fun way to bring children from the community a better understanding of health and wellbeing for sports and life.

If you have any additional questions please done hesitate to email or call. If not, feel free to share the flyer with any children grades 1-6 whom you feel may be interested.

Thank you for your time & have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Jenny Mueller
